Your Gateway to the British Section
Joining the British Section is a unique opportunity for your child to flourish in a truly bilingual and bicultural environment.
Because we operate within the French state system, our admissions process is designed to ensure that every pupil has the linguistic foundation and the resilience to succeed in a dual-curriculum setting.
Choosing the Right Entry Point
We offer three primary routes into the Section, depending on your child's current language level and educational background.
1. The Mainstream Route
For fluent English/French speakers (Anglophones/Francophones)
This is our standard entry for children who are already fluent in English and French.
- Focus: Age-appropriate literacy, analytical skills, and the potential to maintain native-level English while being educated primarily in French.
- From Petite Section (UK Nursery) to Terminale (UK Year 13).
2. Français Spécial (The Immersion Route)
For non-francophone "Anglophones"
If your child is a native English speaker but has little to no knowledge of French, this is their gateway.
- Focus: We provide an intensive "jump-start" in French within a supportive environment. Pupils join their British Section peers for English-language subjects from day one while rapidly gaining the fluency needed to join the mainstream French classes within a year.
- From CE1 (UK Year 3) to Seconde (UK Year 11).
Since its founding, the Lycée International has provided dedicated support for students who are new to France and have little or no prior knowledge of French.
Through the Français Spécial (FS) programme, available from CE1 (UK Year 3) to Seconde (UK Year 11), students benefit from an intensive, one-year French language immersion course designed to help them integrate successfully into the French education system.
During their FS year, students develop their French language skills in a supportive and immersive environment on the Lycée International campus. At the same time, they continue to learn in English alongside their peers in the British Section, ensuring continuity in their academic experience while building confidence in French. On completion of the programme, students join a mainstream French class with the language skills and cultural understanding needed to thrive. The programme is also open to children already living in France who attend an English-medium school and would benefit from intensive French language support before transitioning into the French curriculum.

3. The 'Fast-Track' & 'Accueil' Routes
For francophone students with high potential
Designed for French-speaking children with an exceptional aptitude for English, these classes (available at 6ème and Seconde levels) provide a bridge toward full bilingualism.
Sixième Fast-Track : un parcours bilingue d’excellence
La Section Britannique du Lycée International propose aux élèves francophones ayant un excellent niveau scolaire et de solides bases en anglais d’intégrer la classe de Sixième Fast-Track au Collège Pierre et Marie Curie.
Les élèves bénéficient d’un enseignement renforcé en anglais, dispensé par des enseignants britanniques qualifiés. En 6ème, ils suivent 6 heures de cours par semaine en petit groupe (14 à 16 élèves), puis 4 heures de langue et littérature anglaises et 2 heures d’histoire en anglais de la 5ème à la 3ème.
L’admission repose sur un test écrit, complété par un entretien. Au-delà du niveau d’anglais, la motivation de l’élève et l’engagement de la famille dans un projet bilingue sont des éléments essentiels. Une scolarité préalable en anglais n’est pas requise.
Tout au long du collège, les élèves développent progressivement les compétences linguistiques et académiques nécessaires pour poursuivre leur parcours en Seconde au Lycée International. La réussite dans ce programme exigeant repose sur la curiosité, l’implication personnelle et le goût d’apprendre dans un environnement bilingue et interculturel.

La Classe Seconde Accueil
La Section Britannique s'adresse à des élèves francophones ayant obtenu de très bons résultats au collège et manifestant un réel intérêt pour l'apprentissage de l'anglais. Elle offre un parcours exigeant et stimulant à ceux qui souhaitent développer leurs compétences linguistiques et s'ouvrir davantage à la culture anglophone.
Nous recherchons des élèves qui :
- souhaitent renforcer et approfondir leur maîtrise de l'anglais ;
- s'intéressent aux cultures britannique et anglophones ;
- aiment lire et découvrir des œuvres en anglais ;
- démontrent de solides aptitudes pour les langues ;
- osent s'exprimer à l'oral en anglais, quel que soit leur accent.
Traditionnellement, les enseignements des sections internationales du Lycée International s'adressent principalement à des élèves déjà bilingues souhaitant perfectionner leur maîtrise de l'anglais. Avec la création de la Seconde Accueil, la Section Britannique élargit son offre afin de répondre aux attentes des familles francophones convaincues de l'importance des langues vivantes dans la réussite scolaire et l'ouverture internationale de leurs enfants.
Ce dispositif permet à des élèves motivés, possédant un niveau d'anglais correspondant approximativement aux niveaux B1 à B2 du Cadre européen commun de référence pour les langues (CECRL), de bénéficier d'un enseignement renforcé en anglais dans un environnement international reconnu.
Cette formation constitue une excellente préparation pour les élèves désireux de poursuivre ensuite un parcours international ou de développer durablement leurs compétences linguistiques et interculturelles.

The British Section is a popular choice, and we encourage families to apply within the application dates.

Our assessments are designed to be a positive experience. We aren't just looking for what a child knows; we are looking for their potential to thrive.
- Maternelle (Ages 3–6): A relaxed, play-based oral interview. We look for communication skills, vocabulary, and the ability to follow simple instructions.
- Primary (Ages 6–11): An oral interview plus a written assessment (reading and creative writing) to gauge literacy levels.
- Secondary (Ages 11–18): A formal written examination in English Literature and History, followed by an interview for selected candidates to explore their analytical thinking.
The Externé Status
Most of our primary-aged applicants enter as Externé pupils. This means they remain in their local French school and join the British Section for two half-days a week. It is an excellent way to maintain a "normal" French childhood while benefiting from top-tier British schooling.
Fees & Support
As a non-profit association, our fees are reinvested directly into our teaching staff and resources. We also offer a Scholarship Fund to support families facing unexpected financial hardship once they are part of our community.
