Welcome to the British Section
A Unique Educational Partnership
The British Section is one of the oldest and largest of the fourteen international sections at the Lycée International de Saint-Germain-en-Laye.
We are not a private school in the traditional sense; rather, we are a highly successful academic partnership between the French Ministry of Education and our own independent, non-profit organisation.
This structure allows our pupils to enjoy the best of both worlds: the resources and rigour of a French state education, combined with the pedagogical warmth and academic depth of a British independent school.
The Benefits of Our Model
When parents compare us to traditional international schools, the difference is often found in the longevity and stability of our community.
- Shared Responsibility: as integral members of the British Section community and Parent-Teacher Group (PTG), parents make an active contribution to the life of the section and school through volunteering and fundraising activities.
- Academic Continuity: educating children from 3 to 18 years means we get to know each and every child well and can nurture their individual talents and interests from Nursery (Petite Section) all the way to the BFI in Terminale (UK Year 13).
- Cultural Depth: the emphasis on true bilingualism through the dual curriculum enables pupils to grow up to be equally comfortable in a UK university or a Parisian Grande École.

As pupils enter Collège, there is greater subject specialisation and a drive towards increasing autonomy. The British Section curriculum runs in parallel with the French national curriculum, reinforcing pupils’ ability to move seamlessly between two pedagogical traditions and methodologies.

The final three years of schooling (Seconde, Première, and Terminale) are dedicated to preparing pupils for external examinations International GCSE and the Baccalauréat Français International (BFI) - and university entrance.
