Governance & Non-Profit Status
Unlike many international schools that are run for profit, the British Section is a Registered Association (Loi 1901) and Organisme à intêret général. This means that all tuition fees are reinvested directly into teaching, learning and the well-being of our pupils.
The Role of the Board
The British Section is governed by a Board of Governors elected from the parent body. We are joined by an independent governor, a former headteacher from the UK, who helps to ensure alignment with British educational developments. The Board works in close collaboration with the Director of the Section and oversees:
- Strategic financial planning and fee-setting.
- The recruitment of highly qualified, UK-trained teaching staff.
- Maintenance of our unique "partnership" relationship with the French authorities and host schools.
Our Section
Our School Network
The British Section is unique in its "hub and spoke" model. While our administrative centre is at the Lycée International de Saint-Germain-en-Laye, our pupils are educated across a network of French state schools. This structure ensures that our pupils are not isolated in an international bubble; instead, they are woven into the fabric of French society while maintaining an uncompromisingly British academic identity.
Beyond the classroom
At the British Section, education is not confined to the classroom. Our enrichment programme is designed to challenge pupils to be curious about the world around them, engage with global issues, support local initiatives, and make a positive difference to their communities.
Our History
The story of the British Section is closely tied to the history of the Lycée International itself. Today, we maintain our heritage through a commitment to British educational values – critical thinking, confidence in public speaking, and a strong sense of community – while being firmly rooted in the French landscape.
Working for us
The British Section is actively seeking teachers to join our Supply Teacher Register. Candidates must be native English speakers with qualifications and experience in English speaking schools.
